in addition to what’s mentioned on the main page (crawling, pulling up, cruising, walking with walker toy, feeding self water, shaking his head “no” when you say “no”, waving “bye-bye”, and saying “Da Da”, he also:

Got his first tooth

Does “all-done” sign lang. when he’s finished eating in the high chair

stands for 10 sec. not holding on to anything

Egan at 6 months

August 16, 2008 at 11:01 am (Uncategorized)

Egan is now 6 months old.  He can sit up by himself.  He sat in a high chair at a restaurant last night for the first time, no problem.  He gets up on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth and smiles and seems really proud of himself.  Or he lifts into a plank on hands and toes.   But he still can’t figure out how to go forward into a crawl.  He can move forward by putting his head down, lifting his butt and “scooting” across the floor, basically doing “the worm” in slow motion.  However, he more often goes sideways or backwards, instead of forwards.  He loves his Exersaucer and still loves the jumper seat.

He started eating real food last week.  He’s been eating rice cereal for about a month and enjoying it and getting better at it.  We started with fresh mashed avocado, which he hated.  We then tried jarred sweet potatoes, which he loved, after his second try.  This morning we tried jarred bananas.  He again made a face at first, but then ate most of the bowl.

He makes “goo goo” sounds, but no other consonant sounds yet.  And still no teeth.

Reach out and touch me

June 13, 2008 at 7:41 am (Uncategorized)

Egan’s new thing is he likes to reach out and touch the world, as wide as his little arms can spread, and grab on for the ride.  He holds on to the sides of his carseat, either out for a car ride or a walk in the stroller.  He extends his limbs and grabs hold of the rails on one side of his crib when falling asleep (or sometimes my chin when I’m crouched down over him humming a lullabye.) .  I put him in the bath with me and to settle himself into the new concept of floating, he reached his arms wide and braced himself against the sides of the tub.  His look of concern and uncertainty shifted to a smile of pleasure across his little face.  I suppose he wants to know his position, in relation to the world.  And he seems happy for the ride, as long as he can hold on.

Egan found his thumb the last few weeks consistently and doesn’t gag himself anymore on it.  It’s usually his left thumb he likes to suck.  He already looks so different from his pictures from a month or two ago.  His hair has thinned so much since he was born.  I wish more would grow in.  He looks like an old man with a combover in parts, but what is left is now very light blond.   I think he may be teething – he has some of the symptoms, but I don’t see any teeth yet.

We take him to parties and lunches and outings and he is always a very good boy.  Everyone still thinks he looks like Buddy, but I think he has my lips and chin, and unfortunately my ears.   He now sits in his Bumbo seat and Exersaucer.  He uses the jumpseat in the doorframe at Gammy’s house and laughs and laughs.  He loves tag and bite blankets and his musical octopus. He “talks” more often and in higher and lower tones.

3 1/2 months – Memorial Day weekend

May 27, 2008 at 8:27 am (Uncategorized)

Egan went for his first boatride this weekend (just in the creek.)  He loved it!  He was smiling and kicking his legs and swinging his arms, then fell asleep.

It’s funny how we used to have to rub his cheek to keep him awake while eating when he was a newborn.  Now all he does is eat and fight us to go down for afternoon naps.  He was in a great routine for the last two months.  Now we’re figuring out a new one.  I’m told that’s the way it goes.

We went to the doctor Friday so she could check the flat spot on his head, to make sure it was not out of the ordinary and didn’t need something special done.  She said keep doing what we’re doing – rolling him on his side to sleep holding him when he’s awake.  But we weighed him and he’s 14lbs. 10 oz.  Last time we measured his length he was 25 in. long.  He’s about 50th percentile for both weight and height and about 71st for head circumference.

3 month birthday!

May 8, 2008 at 12:01 pm (Uncategorized)

Egan is so fun now!  He is smiling, laughing, playing, holding toys.  He sleeps through the night mostly, usually wakes up once around 4:30 AM.  In the past month, he transitioned to sleeping on his back in his crib.  (Before that, he slept upright in his car seat because of reflux.)  He’s gotten much better at taking more naps and we’ve gotten better at reading his signs.  For the most part, he is a happy baby!

We are really enjoying him.  He goes to Gammy’s while we’re at work.  We miss him terribly.  He is growing – probably weighs over 13 lbs. now and is about 24 in. long.  Right now he loves to put his fists or anything else in his mouth.  He likes going for walks in the stroller and rides in the car, especially in the evening, and playing in his bouncy seat.  He loves bathtime and will giggle when playing “airplane”.  He likes being held upright so he can look around.  Many people have complimented him on his blue eyes and his head control.
